Yup'ik Masks - The Unexpected Legacy of Sheldon Jackson

Tim Troll

Tim Troll has served for the past twenty years as Executive Director of the Bristol Bay Heritage Land Trust, an organization he helped start in Dillingham in 2000. Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the land trust owns or holds conservation easements on 58,412 acres in Bristol Bay, and helped broker protection for 21,320 acres in the Wood Tikchik State Park. Tim came to Alaska in 1978 as a VISTA volunteer lawyer for Alaska Legal Services in Bethel. From 1980 to 1985 he was the city manager of St. Mary's where helped the Lower Yukon region revitalize Yup'ik Dancing. The Alaska Federation of Natives honored Tim with its Denali Award in 2019.

February 7 is National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (#NBHAAD). This year it is especially important to recognize the disproportional impact of HIV/AIDS on Black communities. We can break barriers to health by providing good information to encourage testing, prevention and care in our communities. Unfortunately, that information can be difficult to find when federal websites have removed all their pages about HIV and AIDS. Endowment Fund Celebration!
On Sunday November 17, the Endowment Fund Committee hosted a “Half-Way Goal Celebration” for the congregation before and after the 11am service. The event was to recognized the congregation’s achievement in surpassing the 50% threshold for our goal of achieving a $500,000 balance (adjusted of inflation) for the Endowment Fund.

Peace Camp planning for 2025 will begin in the New Year!

This year, "The Wizardly World of Peace Camp", will take place June 9-13. Wizard themed but with a spin on UU Values. Will you be in the Cabin of Gratitude? Justice? What potions can demonstrate transformation?
Every wizard needs a fine wand...crafting and creating what uniquely comes from your imagination will be celebrated!

Every wizard is sure to get thirsty. Maybe a class in butterbeer making is in order as a refreshment from casting spells all day...

Those broomstick rides (bike rides) will explore the trails of the land...

Oh, and the ideas that are sure to come from brainstorming together....Join us!

If you have previously helped plan Peace Camp, or are a newbie like me, please consider joining us on the following dates and times in the Library at AUUF.

Wednesday, April 23 at 1pm

More dates and times will be announced the closer we get to camp.

We are so fortunate to have Rosene Beachy join us and be a part of Peace Camp in 2025 as well! Thanks to Rosene and the hard working team, Peace Camp also has accreditation from the ACA (American Camp Association)! I look forward to learning from the best and beloved former AUUF DRE director on this camp planning journey.
